beach pet hospital has always taken amazing care of our animals. we unfortunately had to put one of our dogs down recently, unexpectedly and are so grateful to Dr. Upchurch and her team for their care, compassion and kindness. truly a special place with caring people
We were clients of this vet office because our dogs have always seen a specific vet. He recently switched practices, and he is no longer with Beach Pet Hospital. When it was time to schedule my dog's yearly appointment, the front desk told me that my vet had "retired". It sounded fishy...because he isn't that old. So, I did a simple Google search and found out that he hadn't retired...he just switched practices. I called them back to confirm that this vet had indeed retired, and the front desk staff did not relent--they still told me he retired. Needless to say, I asked for our records to be sent over to my vet's new practice. Why lie to people? I understand there are non-compete clauses, but why not just tell your customers that he is just no longer with the practice? No one likes a liar.
We only went to Beach Pet Hospital because of this vet. In our time there, the staff was fine. Most of the vet techs were nice. I only had a couple of interactions with other vets there. Once, I had to take my dog in for an emergency. My regular vet was off that day. The vet that saw him had to deliver bad news to me. She was a little cold and not very compassionate. She didn't offer us really any options for care, and questioned me a lot on why I didn't notice this problem sooner. I ended up taking my dog home to think things through. I was devastated. Thankfully my regular vet called me the next day, and we discussed some options and developed a plan of care that I could feel good about.
I rate this practice a 3 because it is just "ok".... and they lied to me about where my vet went. Outside of my regular vet, I didn't find it that spectacular.
Whether it’s a wellness check up, an acute concern, or navigating end of life care, we have always had a great experience at Beach Pet Hospital. Fees are reasonable, and the techs and doctors are incredibly kind and compassionate. In the past, they’ve given me 3 estimates on one visit so I could comfortably decide the best option for my pet, and I’ve never felt any pressure to choose the most expensive or aggressive treatment. Last year, we had multiple visits requiring x-rays for my girl and she was so calm and comfortable with them each time, which I think says a lot on how they treat our beloved pets. For the past month, our family had been dealing with a very scary diagnosis of one of our cats. The team sent follow up emails, and Dr. Upchurch called me personally to answer my questions and honestly just let me vent my stress and fear with understanding and professionalism. During another episode, they referred us to COVE, sending her records there and even calling them for us when they knew that was what was best for her. Ultimately, we had to let our girl go peacefully, and the office truly went above and beyond expectations making the visit as calm and loving as possible. I am so grateful for the guidance, support, and care our pets have received from Dr. Upchurch and Beach Pet Hospital.

Thank you for a wonderful visit.
You guys are top notch!
I’ve been bringing my dog here for about a year and a half. The veterinarians are knowledgeable, caring, and have always provided excellent medical care. While the prices can be high, that’s fairly expected these days, and I’ve never had an issue paying for quality care.
What has me questioning whether I will continue coming here is the professionalism of the front desk staff, particularly Tanya. Over the past 18 months, I’ve spent thousands of dollars at this practice and have always paid my bills promptly, yet I consistently feel like an inconvenience when interacting with the front desk.
During my most recent visit, I noticed an additional appointment listed on my account and simply asked for clarification before checking in because I wanted to ensure I hadn’t missed anything that could result in a no-show fee. Rather than receiving a straightforward explanation, I was met with a snarky and condescending response that it would be discussed at checkout. The concern itself wasn’t complicated, I was simply trying to avoid any misunderstanding. When you’re coming in with an 90lb dog, it’s hard to manage already sometimes and I knew I would probably forget to ask again at check-out.
At checkout, when I asked for clarification on some charges to confirm I wasn’t being billed for medication I had declined, I was again met with the same dismissive and condescending attitude. Asking questions about appointments and charges should not feel like an inconvenience, especially when veterinary care is already a significant expense.
The unfortunate reality is that every interaction I’ve had with the front desk has felt similar. Checking in and checking out are consistently the least pleasant parts of visiting this practice. It never feels good to spend a substantial amount of money and then be treated with indifference or spoken to in a condescending manner.
The doctors here are the reason I’ve remained a client, but the front desk experience has reached a point where I’m actively considering other veterinary practices. I don’t know whether the staff are overwhelmed, understaffed, or simply unhappy in their roles, but the lack of professionalism and customer service has become impossible to overlook.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously because the quality of the veterinary care deserves a front desk team that reflects the same level of professionalism and compassion.
